I think that Chivalry is a main point througout this story. As knights the men are supposed to step forward and protect thier king, although all the men are speechless when the Green knight challenges the knights. "stiller were then all that household in hall" (301-302) But when the king is ashamed and all the knights embarrassed and sir Gawain takes a step up, he's the only one that doesn't abandon a noble cause as listed in the chilvary codes on http://www.astro.umd.edu/~marshall/chivalry.html. Sir Gawain's worthiness is put to the test, Will he show up in 12 months? When he is at Bertilaks castle by their agreement. I think it's odd that the wife says "-a truce we must make, or i shall bing you in your bed, of that be assured" this is a forwarning of what is to come. She is telling him to be truthful, but he does not, When he dosen't tell Bertilak about the girdle he defys the code of chivalry. I wonder how much the other knights follow the code, since he was the one to defend their kingdom, and he lies to save himself?
